Artists
We currently have over 160 artists with a wide
range of skills and experience.
Artlink Central's support of artists based in Scotland is a fundamental part of our
overall strategy as an Arts Organisation.
Through the varied employment we offer, individuals are able to support themselves as
working artists and have the financial freedom to develop their own work.
Artists are given the opportunity to gain experience of working with a wide range of
vulnerable groups and designated training days provide additional skills. This training
covers a variety of topics such as mental health awareness, working with autistic children and
dementia and the Arts. We welcome applications from interested visual artists, musicians
and drama workers. To apply, please contact us and send your CV.

Artist's Profile - Celine Tessler
"In 1993 I was involved in a motorcycle accident - my leg suffered terrible injuries. After nine months in five different hospitals and three years of operations, life became a constant struggle for the freedom to be myself both physically and mentally. It was when I had to face the truth – that my leg could not be saved and it had to be amputated – that I discovered art through Artlink Central’s Artspace Drop-in.
To begin with I found it difficult to get to Artspace but, once I did, I could escape from my cruel reality for a while and express my emotions and feelings through art. Artlink for me became a lifeline: a means to help me cope, and being with other people who all had their own difficulties helped me forget mine for a while.
The enjoyment and satisfaction I gained from involvement in the arts encouraged me to progress from evening classes onto an HND in Glasswork Production Techniques. Working with glass has shown me that there are always ways around problems, and through glass there is always a new way to look at things and to look forward to change.
Recently I have been working with recycled materials to examine the relationship between the old and new, the past, the present and the future. Glass is an amorphic substance, reflecting dancing shadows of time, inner directions, colours of the past, here and now. Creative expression has become a passion, a lifeline, a grounding in my life. We forget the resourcefulness that each of us has within us to adapt to change.
Studying and working with glass has presented me with so many opportunities. Initially, I was asked if I would like to become a committee member for Artlink – a role that gave me so much confidence. Once I started college I was selected as the President of the North College Glasgow Students’ Association and in 2003 I was awarded the Principal’s Prize for my endeavours and achievements. Then, in June 2005 I won 1st prize for two-dimensional art from The Trades House in Glasgow.
Since completing my HND I have continued to work with Artlink Central as an artist, and have also undertaken a number of private and commercial commissions. Some of my pieces can be seen online in the Bank of Scotland Gallery.
To undertake a Degree level course in my subject is something I would never have dreamed of. However, I am about to embark on a degree in Glass Art at Edinburgh College of Art. What this means to me is the potential to delve further into my chosen subject and to learn from the experience of working with many other techniques, such as mould making, molten glasswork and film work.
That first taster of the arts at Artlink’s Artspace whet my appetite for more and enabled me to immerse myself in something I love. It has been a long journey, but Artlink helped me to re-grow my wings and fly to where I am now."
