A graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, George Macpherson then completed a Post-graduate year of study and was subsequently appointed Lecturer at the School of Drawing and Painting, Edinburgh College of Art, in 1960. While his work is primarily influenced by landscape, the impact of his perception of surfaces and textures can be seen in this unique donation to Art off the Rock 2006. George's exhibitions and collections include those at The Scottish Gallery, The Scottish Arts Club, The Torrance Gallery, and the ’57 Gallery. George’s works are also kept in public and private collections including The Royal Scottish Academy, while his one man exhibitions include those at The Scottish Arts Council, Edinburgh Schools Collection, Edinburgh City Chambers, The Jean Watson Trust, The Wilton Lodge Gallery. George Macpherson has been a full Member of the RSA since 2005. His awards include the Latimer Award; RSA, 1963; Guthrie Award; RSA, 1966; Highland Society of London Award; and the RSA, 1995. |
