Lot 13: Hugh Murdoch - 'African Women'

Every work by Hugh Murdoch is based on that which is seen, experienced or perceived - and many are rooted in that which is heard. Music plays a prominent role in the work of this talented artist, whose paintings of the African landscape and people are inspired by the rhythmic beat of the African drum. After training at Edinburgh College of Art, much of the inspiration has been derived through music, colour, movement and sound - all becoming part of his reality. Highly successful exhibitions over recent years include those in galleries, private homes, offices and a variety of venues around Scotland. In addition, Hugh has been a member of the judging panel for the Helen Keller Awards and he continues to sit on various arts and disability committees, as well as being a board member of the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. Hugh Murdoch has generously donated two stunning works influenced by his experience of Africa. To view more of Hugh Murdoch's work, visit Hugh's website.
