Lot 14: Alfons Bytautas - 'Northern Rock'

A graduate and postgraduate of Edinburgh College of Art, Alfons Bytautas is influenced by his love of nature and landscape. Alfons’ technical knowledge and skill have enabled him to help some of Scotland’s greatest artists produce world-class prints, utilising the facilities at Edinburgh Printmakers, which is now regarded as one of the leading print studios in the world, dedicated to pioneering innovative print processes. Alfons has collaborated as a master-printer with many artists both from Scotland and abroad, including Alan Davie, Callum Innes, John Bellany and Barbara Rae. He also featured in the first ever Scottish Print Open Exhibition, and is a member of the Edinburgh Printmakers’ studio, a member of their Board of Directors and a Senior Etching Technician. His most recent works are polymer photogravures, a medium he has done much to promote through teaching and published articles. Although he is keen to exploit recent developments in printing techniques, his work acknowledges the history and legacy of European graphic art and etching in particular.
