Philip Reeves was born 1931 and studied at both Cheltenham School of Art and the Royal College of Art London. He was appointed lecturer at Glasgow School of Art 1954, and then made Head of Printmaking from 1970 - 1991. Notably, Phillip is also a founder member of the Edinburgh Printmakers' workshop and a founder member of the Glasgow Print Studio. He is also a member of the Royal Scottish Academy, the Society of Scottish Artists, the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painters and Printmakers. His work in public collections include: Scottish Gallery of Modern Art, Scottish Arts Council, Contemporary Art Society, Art Galleries in Aberdeen, Dundee, Perth, Edinburgh City Art Collection, Glasgow University, the British Government Art Collection, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Of his work, Reeves says: 'The object and the place are important aspects of my work: a distillation of form, colour, shape, depicting territory both urban and rural.
